Recipe for a Perfect Christmas

Start with a couple of inches of fresh fluffy snow followed by copious quantities of sunshine.

Add flour, salt, canola oil, and water,

then apples, apple juice, raisins, orange juice, grated orange rind, brown sugar, cinnamon, and cloves.

Bake in a 400F oven for 40 minutes,

and let cool.
Meanwhile, chop carrots, turnip (rutabaga), onions, celery, and garlic, season with salt and pepper, and saute in olive oil,

then add a cup of water, cover tightly, and braise until tender. Put a capon in the oven to roast.
Steep a cup of this,

while savouring this new book.

Don a new pair of socks,

and head out for a long walk.

Merry Christmas!

  1. Merry Christmas! Sounds like you've got a great plan going for Christmas. And it looks like a whole lot of copies of that book have been showing up in the area. I'm still waiting for a solid chunk of time to myself to go through it in depth.

  2. Entirely lovely!

  3. this is it ! one of the most perfect short christmas pieces ever published anywhere. On a par, i swear, with When icicles hang by the wall/ ... and greasy Joan doth keel the pot.

it's too good to let slip away. Perhaps you could run it again next year & every year thereafter.

    1. Glad you enjoyed it and hope your day was as fine as mine.
