While waiting for the ferry at Glenora this morning, a flock of white swans landed before me in the bay. There were quite a lot of them, and they were surprisingly large. I've never seen them there before, and suspect they must be in transit to warmer climes, since the lake will likely freeze over. The day was one of those special days close to the solstice when the light was grey but luminous. There wasn't a breath of air, and the water was glassy.
The only sound was the drip, drip of water off the beaks of the birds as they dipped their heads into the still lake. Memorable.
